Sam P. Rives started writing songs in high school, around the time that he was working as a dancing coffee cup mascot--he'd hop on one leg and do the twist for passersby on a busy road in his hometown of Newport News, Virginia. In 2012 he moved to Austin, Texas, where his car was stolen eight years later. Undaunted, he muddles on.
